Kujira 10 Years Old is a fascinating Ryukyu Whisky from Okinawa, produced by Masahiro Shuzo, a historic Japanese distillery founded in 1883.
Unlike whiskies traditionally made from barley, Kujira is crafted from rice, an ingredient deeply rooted in the culture and distilling traditions of the Ryukyu Islands. The whisky is then matured for over 10 years in virgin white oak casks under Okinawa's subtropical climate, shaped by warm temperatures, humidity and maritime influences.
The result is an intense yet beautifully balanced whisky. The nose reveals elegant notes of honey and brown sugar, complemented by spices and gentle oak aromas. On the palate it is smooth and enveloping, with flavours of buttery caramel, liquorice and freshly baked bread, enriched by spicy hints of clove and cinnamon.
The finish is long and spicy, with a pleasant touch of bitterness balancing the whisky's natural sweetness.
An original and refined expression of southern Japan, capturing the distinctive character of Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands in every glass.
